Seaside Heights Assault Involving Boardwalk Workers
The Asbury Park Press recently reported an assault arrest in Seaside Heights that involved an interesting twist. While the more common scenario is that boardwalk workers are the victim of some form of offense, this incident involved them as the aggressors. In fact, there were actually two workers involved, one an adult and another a minor. The two allegedly got into a verbal argument with another gentlemen and it culminated in a physical altercation that left the victim with serious injuries. The damage was so severe that he had to be helicoptered to Jersey Shore Trauma Center. Aggravated assault charges have been filed in the matter.
Aggravated assault is a much more common charge than you might anticipate, especially when it comes to the summer season in Seaside Heights. The offense is almost always filed if a fight results in anything serious in terms of injuries. It is also frequently filed in conjunction with incidents where the Seaside Heights Police are alleging resisting arrest. The reason why you see it cropping up so often in this situation is because any “bodily injury” sustained by a police officer as a result of physical resistance or force results in a felony indictable offense of aggravated assault. Bodily injury encompasses just about any contact as all that is required to satisfy this definition is “physical pain, illness or any impairment of physical condition”. Accordingly, all a police officer has to do is alleged that some temporary pain was cause by someone and an aggravated assault can potentially be filed.
